Shad-Darshana–The Six Orthodox Indian Philosophies. In India philosophy originated as an exploration of mystery of life and existence. Indian philosophy refers to a number of philosophical traditions that arouse in Indian subcontinent. The Indian philosophies are divided into two classes, namely, Nastika (non- believers in the Vedas as supreme) and Astika (believers in the Vedas). The Nastik philosophies are Buddhist, Jain and Charvaka. Astika philosophies are six in number they are called Shad Darshana.   yoga sutra (1:2)  "Yogas Chitta vriti nirodhah" In this sutra Maharishi Patanjali gives us the definition of yoga. "Yoga is the Stoppage of fluctuations  of mind". In this sutra "chitta" means our internal mind which is made up of 17 components, 5 jnanendriyas, 5 karmendriyas, 5 pranas, ego and mind.
